writing
Narrative game projects and short stories.
Sunnyside Shootout (Game Script), 2024
Sunnyside Shootout was created for the Gamedev.tv Game Jam in 2024 in 10 days. The game is a silly egg-themed western shooter with a top-down perspective, but features some fun animated cutscenes in order to convey character motivations and a background story. It was a fun challenge to imply a larger story in just a few short lines, but I was able to achieve it with a few egg puns and witty remarks. Apart from the script, in game descriptions and taglines were all written by myself as well.
Flash Fiction, 2022
A flash fiction piece written for a creative writing course, in which I challenged myself to write a fairy tale inspired story. The narrative revolves around a craftsman who crafts a living doll using moonglass and grows to love her, yet is forced to part with her.
Timepiece II, 2021
Timepiece II was written as the final piece for Mutant & Hybrid Forms at the Cleveland Institute of Art. For the course of the semester, we were challenged to create poetry and writings with unique compositions and mediums such as collages, emojis, maps, etc. Timepiece II is an evolved form of the original Timepiece game, which was an interactive poem game that served as a prototype for all the concepts I planned to incorporate. This work was also featured in Indiepocalypse issue #55 in August 2024!
Planet X, 2021
Planet X is a sci-fi interactive fiction game written in Twine which can be played in your browser. This was my first attempt at using Twine for interactive fiction and experimenting with integrating audio and visuals in game. The game features 3 major paths as you choose your own backstory: a former space pirate, a Lunzoran researcher, or a lieutenant in an intergalactic war.
Marina Morgan & The Quest to the Wasteland, 2019
This is a collection of 5 short stories written as a final project for Writing & Inquiry III at the Cleveland Institute of Art. My intention was to write a short collection of fantasy stories about the Royal Sorcerer Marina Morgan, a fictional magician with a complicated past, and her journey as she embarks on a quest to rescue the kidnapped Prince Andrew.
In my dream, 2019
In my dream is a short poem-experiment created with bitsy game maker. This piece was my first foray into integrating poetic writing with the visual expression of video games, using the interactive element of gameplay to enhance the poem’s experience. It can be played in your browser, and only takes about 5 minutes to read.
The Death Contract (Game Script), 2019
The Death Contract is a visual novel created by a team of 5 developers as a submission to “My First Game Jam: Summer 2019”. The story involves a failing college student, Valeria Jimenez, who is confronted by a supernatural entity and offered a deal: sabotage the student council campaign of her best friend, and save her own skin. As a branching narrative written in Ren’Py, writing the script for this game was a unique challenge. The script was formatted in a particular way in order to faciliate easy implementation by the programmer.
This is a 5 page script sample of the complete 42 page script. Contributors to the script include myself, Kelly, and Salt.
